The series pokes fun at the history of paleontological mistakes such as the Othniel C. Marsh and Edward Drinker Cope rivalry which resulted in "The Great Bone War". Both men made many false claims which, at the time and for decades after, were touted as fact. "The Great Bone War" led to descriptions of new species which were unfortunately reliant on sparse material, fossils which mixed up bones from different animals, and in a few instances which gave two different names to the same animal.
